The Dog Holding the Moon In His Mouth
and
Other Folktales From Shan State
The Dog Holding the Moon In His Mouth and Other Folktales From Shan State is a unique collection of time-honored stories compiled by the students of the 9th Social Justice Education Program. The words and pictures are all theirs-interpretations of Kachin, Kayan, Pa-O, Shan and Wa legends that have been preserved orally for generations and are now being translated into English and put to paper- many for the first time. Alongside these traditional tales are also now, contemporary stories that illustrate the modern challenges facing Shan State’s people today, as well as their hopes for peace in the future.
We hope this book can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, from both Shan State and the international community
